In today's server blade environment, CPU, Memory and I/O resources are vastly underutilized for most customer applications. It becomes a costly investment for the customer to purchase sufficient hardware to cover the peak bandwidth needs, only to have computer resources go under utilized or even idle most of the time. NextIO has developed a subsystem using a shared I/O PCI Express based cross-bar switch that allows the server to share I/O resources among other servers with no software modifications and complete PCI Express and I/O compatibility. The NextIO switch allows several servers to share the same I/O device while transparently giving the appearance of a dedicated device to each server. Once shared I/O is enabled through the NextIO switch, customers can reduce their hardware I/O investment by at least 50%!
